Promoting Human Rights Through Dialogue, Research And Education

The created the nation’s first Human Rights Studies undergraduate program in 1998. In 2013, UD created the to advance the university’s mission to promote respect for the inherent dignity of all persons through dialogue, research and education.

Founded in 1979, the was the first endowed institute at an American law school devoted to international human rights law and has long been a world leader in legal education and human rights scholarship.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss efforts to extend and strengthen human rights here in the United States and worldwide are University of Dayton Human Rights Center Executive Director Shelley Inglis; and Distinguished Service Professor of Law and Director of the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights at the , Bert Lockwood.

The University of Dayton will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its human rights studies program and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights with Thursday, December 6. Human Rights Practice and Profession: From the Classroom to the Field takes place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Educating Future Generations in Human Rights During Challenging Times will run from  6:30 to 8 p.m. Both events will be held in the Auditorium at Daniel J. Curran Place, located at 1700 S. Patterson Blvd. in Dayton.
